Gunnar Rundgren, an ecological thinker well known in the international organic community, will hold a public lecture and dialogue in Bangkok on WednesdayJune 4.

Gunnar Rundgren will give a lecture on Wednesday.

Organised by Suan Nguen Mee Ma Publishers, the “Garden Earth: From Hunter and Gatherer to Global Capitalism and Thereafter” talk will be held at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon, from 2pm-3.30pm.

The Swedish activist has worked with most sections of the organic agriculture sector — from farming to policy since 1977, starting on the pioneer organic farm, Torfolk.

With experiences from more than 100 countries in the world, including Thailand, Rundgren has been engaged as a consultant by NGOs, the government, private companies and inter-governmental organisations.

He is the initiator of several organisations for organic agriculture in Sweden and has published several books related to organic farming, including one with the same title as the topic of this lecture. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in science at the Uganda Martyrs University in 2009. The same year, he was appointed a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry.

The lecture is part of a three-day event organised by the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion to mark the World Environment Day on June 5. The event, held under the theme “Raise Your Voice Not the Sea Level”, is running at the same venue from June 4-6.

The lecture will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation by Sarinee Achavanuntakul, a writer and co-founder of Sal Forest, Thailand’s first sustainable business research and advocacy firm.
