Situated in Piman 49 in Sukhumvit soi 49, amidst the hustle and bustle of Thonglo area, is Kaiyang Suayai by Mangmoom, a Thai restaurant with a statement and a clear passion. A statement which, according to its founder and owner Khunying Mangmoom, or M.R. Srikhumrung Yukol Rattakul, not only translates original recipes which have been passed on over generations within the family into carefully prepared Esan dishes but also has a passionate desire to retain the north-eastern Thai identity in all its glory. There are no holds barred in terms of the use of ingredients, formulation, tastes, scents or forms when it comes to the cooking and this results in the authentically delicious dishes that Esan people would not have any other way. The cheerful atmosphere accentuated by the bright and striking colours of the restaurant typifies the unique character of the owner and is intended to compliment the experience of enjoying these sumptuous Esan dishes with absolutely no  pretense.

Kaiyang Suayai by Mangmoom is the third restaurant that came into being after the first one on Ratchadapisek Road and the second one in Krungthepkrita Road.

It was, indeed, by accident that the first one started some 20 years ago when Khunying Mangmoom's father, Prince Chatrichalerm or M.C. Chatrichalerm Yukol, the renowned film director, created in his movie set a mock-up Esan restaurant in the film "Sia Dai". After the filming ended, Mangmoom's grandmother, an avid food lover, saw an opportunity of turning this movie set into a real eatery. She asked for it not to be pulled down and started her own business. Today, this restaurant still stands and has its own loyal customers. Because of its popularity, the second one opened in Krungthepkrita a few years later and is run by Mom Kamala Yukol na Ayudhya, Mangmoom's mother who enjoys creating new menus for her many friends and family.

Now, we come to the third generation and arrive at Kaiyang Suayai by Mangmoom, a restaurant that has been specifically designed to cater for the needs of urbanites wanting to have real Esan food under a relaxed and comfortable ambience. The close attention given to all stages of food preparation means that all ingredients are carefully selected from insecticide-free small farms in the north-eastern provinces of the country and all the foods do not contain monosodium glutamate or any other artificial additives. Every single dish is carefully prepared with extensive use of different Thai herbs to bring out and enhance the original tastes.

A visit to Kaiyang Suayai by Mangmoom will not only give one a chance to taste original Esan cousine, but it will also give one a fulfilling respite from today's fast-moving lifestyle of the city. It is now time to savour our signature roast chicken, somtum, and other delicious Esan dishes and enjoy the company of your friends and family at our welcoming and humble restaurant.
