Ain't nobody got time to type in full English anymore these days. Abbreviations can make communication more effective and fun but when a friend texts you "50% off *$ joe! come see w/ yr eyes ASAYGT", you'd probably reply with "WTF" instead of "K" (because "OK" is also way too long).
On the other hand, a clever use of abbreviations can make things ring with coolness. A new all-day dining restaurant in Mode Sathorn Hotel called BLD Bistro is a case in point. You should understand right away that it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (instead of thinking it's a typo of "BLT").
BLD is designed with both lightweight grazers and heavy-hitting eaters in mind. If you're in a hurry, grab a sandwich or piece of cake at the takeaway corner on the ground level. For a proper sit-down meal, go to the main dining area on the mezzanine. The main area comes across as cute, clean and stylish in a way that won't make everyone go "OMG" but should be appealing to white-collar women of Sathon and mothers collecting their boys from Bangkok Christian College. The tall glass wall and high ceiling give an airy feel to a space that might otherwise seem rather narrow. Food-wise, BLD offers more than 20 French dishes and counting (some items aren't officially listed on the menu yet) and an extensive list of drinks.
