Two standouts from the throng of thai cookbooks
For anyone wishing to cut to the essence of the local cuisine, these volumes from Sangdad Publishing _ one on curries and the other on Isan food _ are a great place to start
Cookbooks exist in countless volumes and they will always be with us, but the number of really valuable and useful ones is much smaller. It would save culinary devotees time, money and shelf space to know of some of the outstanding Thai cookbooks, and today I would like to recommend a pair of volumes that I think of as gems of the genre.
TASTY TREATS: The covers of Sangdad’s ‘Ahan Isan’ and ‘Kaeng Thai’.
They are both produced by Sangdad Publishing, a publisher with deep knowledge of Thai food and almost 30 years of experience in creating high-quality Thai-language cookbooks that compile recipes for all kinds of local dishes. The two in their collection that I am recommending today are Kaeng Thai, devoted to Thai curries, and Ahan Isan, which looks at cuisine of the Northeast. Both are equally interesting.
