July 5 commemorates the introduction of the bikini in 1946 by a French automobile engineer/fashion designer named Louis Reard. Your mission for this special day is to celebrate it by wearing a bikini/watching girls in their bikini. Although boobies and booties alone are more than enough to make this our new favourite holiday, we've also decided to research Thailand's history with this two-piece wonder.
Being the demure people we are, we imagine that Thai ladies back in the day probably wore sarongs up to their armpits while wading in canals and collecting lotus flowers. However, to get a clearer picture of how the swimsuit has evolved in Thailand, we spent a day in theBangkok Post archives getting allergies from all the dust to look at (almost) naked women.
