Gate Crasher

Welcome to Guru's Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Looks like things are staying indoors this weekend, with some club offerings to keep us out of trouble (or get us right back in). Here's a line-up.

DJ

Things kick off tonight (Aug 10) with a guest DJ from the region. Zouk presents DJ Hong sees the Singaporean spinster fly in for one night (or maybe he's on holiday - always hard to know) to play at Demo (Thong Lor Soi 10, 085-250-2000, facebook.com/democlub), which has been a little neglected of late. Time for a resurgence? It's a good ongoing association for them to have anyway with Zouk, which self-brags as Asia's No.1 Club. Arguments aside, it's nice to see more regional collaborations. Normal entry prices.

PARTY

If you're feeling glamorous and want to hang out with the beautiful people, try Saturday in Paris (Aug 11), which is billing itself as the new home for the city's precarious model scene. Still, sometimes you just gotta strut, and the party is on at the refined surrounds of Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit's L'Appart lounge bar (32/F, 189 Sukhumvit Road, between Sois 13-15, 02-126-9999). Models need to RSVP via cboonyang@gmail.com with their composite to ensure entry.

PARTY

On Sat (Aug 11), Underground Circus rolls around again with Version 2.4. Expect more of the same here from these guys - shameless, fist-pumping house-bound shenanigans.

It's on at Glow (96/4-5, Sukhumvit Soi 23, www.glowbkk.com). Entry is B300 with a drink, and there will be free vodka shots from 10pm-midnight to lure punters early. DJs include Sunju Hargun, Dan Buri And Toby White.

AFTER HOURS

To become a true party destination, Bangkok really needs to sort its after hours situation out. And the After All crew has gamely taken up the challenge in putting on Silom After-Hours, to give your night those few more all-important yards you need to close it out properly. Rather than heading to Wongs, Narz or whatever other hovel you know that ducks the curfew, try the The Black Pagoda (Patpong Soi 2, Silom) in the wee hours of Sun (Aug 12). Doors open at 2:30am, and entry is B100. DJs will include the familiar faces of Jaydubb, Peppe and Felix Moreno.

PARTY

Since Mon is a holiday, Sunday night activities are fair game. For some late-weekend basslines, try Dubstep Sunday presents FilthySolid (Aug 12). The crew has found a new home at the new Cafe Democ (1/F, Silom Plaza, 491 Silom Road), which is a compromise since it's in a mini shopping centre, but is becoming a cosy little bunker as things settle in. Entry is free. Things carry on at the same venue the next night (Aug 13) with Chillin' Monday. The concept is simple enough: "good electronic music, best cocktails at fresh and easy locations". Entry is free. Starts around 10pm.
