Hard Rock meets Schubert

Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya is putting away the blue suede shoes in favour of Franz Schubert, at least for one night.

Pianist Aree Kunapongkul (above) and violinist Mathias Boegner will perform at Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya on Aug 30 at 7.30pm.

"Schubertiade", an evening of Schubert's classical music, features Thai pianist Aree Kunapongkul and German/Swiss violinist Mathias Boegner and will takes place on Aug 30 from 7.30pm.

The concert is being held to raise funds to support projects for children by the Young Women's Christian Association of Bangkok-Pattaya Centre.

The programme will include Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata In A Minor D 821, Variation On Trockne Blumen In E Minor Opus Posth 160, D 802, Rondo Brillant In B Minor Opus 70, D 895 and Fantasy In C Major "Sei Mir Gegruesst" Opus Posth 159, D 934.

Aree received her Master of Music degree from Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, Connecticut, majoring in piano performance in 1998. Last year she was invited by the Chopin Society to sit on the jury panel of the pre-selection committee set up to pre-audition applicants of the 9th Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition. She is now a full-time faculty member at the Conservatory of Music at Rangsit University and also the head of piano studies at the New Frontier Music Academy, Bangkok.

Boegner has appeared in Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, Havanna and New York and has recently released recordings of Paganini's and Ysaye's solo works.

He has been teaching at National University of the Arts Taiwan, Hochschule Zuerich and China Conservatory Beijing.
