Tribute in words and music to a late, great Thai poet

To mark the passage of 50 days since the death of National Artist Angkarn Kalayanapong, an all-day tribute to the late poet and painter is being organised tomorrow complete with merit making, performances of traditional music and a discussion on Angkarn's poetry. The event, dubbed Sewana Sara Tasanajorn, will take place at Wat Thong Noppakul, Klong San district, Thon Buri, beginning at 10am.

It is being hosted by the Angkarn Kalayanapong Fund, Silpa Wattanatham (Art and Culture) magazine and the Centre for Urban Design and Development.

The highlight should be a talk led by writer/historian Sujit Wongthes who will be sharing his views on the literary style in Lao-Thai poetry which was pioneered by Angkarn. A traditional pipe ensemble will also play a funeral dirge.
