Soon, users will be able to "subscribe" to various profiles, whether from friends or the ranks of celebrity users. Some of the first major celebrities to get on board are Barack Obama, Paul McCartney, Slash, Justin Bieber, and David Guetta.

The "discovery" tab will enable access to a customized list of recommendations based on the user's listening habits and on those of the user's friends and followed artists.

Spotify mentions several useful updates to its range of tools, such as the "+" symbol, which enables users to add any album to their library. Subscribers can also get notifications on their mobiles when their favorite artists release music.

Spotify is also planning a major update to its platform which will be accessible from computers, mobile devices and a new web-based interface (similar to Deezer) compatible with all browsers early next year.

Spotify also announced a deal with Metallica to host all of the band's records on the platform. Lars Ulrich's band, the first to sue P2P music service Napster in 2000 to fans' dismay, seems to have changed its view about web-based music sharing.

Spotify claims 20 million subscribers in the world, including almost 5 million
