Mahidol University's College of Music will bring world-renowned and Thai artists to the 5th Thailand International Jazz Conference (TIJC 2013) which will take place at its Salaya campus between Feb 1 and 3.

Infinity.

Held under the theme "For the Love of Jazz", the festival will give music lovers a close-up experience of the artists' passion for the art form and what inspires them to create their masterpieces. Following its dual purpose of providing musical enjoyment as well as education, this year's event comprises three main parts _ performances, educational activities and a jazz solo competition.

Legendary Puerto Rican bassist Eddie Gomez, American pianist/composer/writer Kenny Werner and American guitarist Peter Bernstein are among the internationally recognised artists participating in the festival.

The TIJC 2013 is also a showcase for leading Thai jazz musicians, who are invited to join both concerts and musical workshops, as well as jazz bands from universities. Among them are Koh Mr Saxman and Electric Bebop Band, Infinity, Siam Cubano Band and Bangkok Connection. Bands from Mahidol, Silpakorn and Rangsit universities will also participate.

This is the first year the TIJC Jazz Camp will be held before the festival, between Jan 28 and 30.

The three-day camp is a chance for music enthusiasts to meet, learn from and play music with musicians from Werner's trio. Werner is both a famous pianist and a guest lecturer at recognised universities.

The other band members, bassist Johannes Weidenmueller and percussionist Ari Hoenig, are also full of useful advice and musical techniques.

Tickets cost 500 baht for a one-day pass for each programme and 2,000 baht for the three-day pass for every programme, with a 20% discount available for students.

Tickets can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major booths (call 02-262-3456).
