Didier Wampas, frontman and founder of the famous French group Les Wampas will shake up Alliance Francaise Bangkok with his punk rock/psychobilly vibes during a rock concert next Thursday at 7.30pm.
Didier Wampas and his fellow musicians will perform during a free rock concert at the gardens of Alliance Francaise on Feb 28 at 7.30pm.
The singer-songwriter Didier launched his eponymous band in 1983. Describing their music as "yeye-rock", the band became especially known for its trashy humour and fake juvenile lyrics as well as for Didier's performances on stage during which he actively involves the audience.
In 2003, Les Wampas became known to the general public with the release of the single Manu Chao. In 2011, Didier embarked on a solo album entitled Taisez-moi (Shut Me Up), followed by a tour in 2012.
During the filming of Bangkok Jam last year in which he played himself, Didier met several Asian and French musicians with whom he decided to organise a tour in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. He will be accompanied by these musicians during the upcoming concert.
Directed by Lim Channalen and Jean-Philippe Ury, Bangkok Jam is the story of Chenda, a young Cambodian teacher who leads a double life, teaching French at a public school during the day and giving free rein to her passion for music by playing bass guitar in a bar at night.
This lifestyle, clashing with her culture's traditional values, leads her to lose her teaching job and she is turned out of her home by a relative. Having nothing to lose, she goes to Bangkok with Niko, her mentor, where, through a series of unexpected events, she meets Didier Wampas.
