Australian pianist Ambre Hammond will be making her Bangkok debut at a concert in the Goethe Institute on March 7.

Classical pianist Ambre Hammond will perform at the Goethe Institute on March 7.

Organised by D&M Music Studio, the recital will feature Mozart's Piano Sonata No.10 (K330), Schumann/Liszt's Devotion, Hammond's Reflect, Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No.2, Piazolla's Cafe 1930 and Chopin's Etude No.4 (Opus 10).

Hammond was taught to play the piano by her mother from the age of three and gave her first public performance when she was five. In 1990 she became the first 12-year-old to receive both an associate diploma and a licentiate diploma in music from the Australian Music Examinations Board in the same year. She won first prize in an international music competition in Argentina when she was only 16. Later that year she recorded piano works by Franz Liszt including such demanding pieces as Reminiscences de Norma (Bellini), Mephisto Waltz No.1, Apres une lecture de Dante and Wilde Jagd. The following year, she was invited to return to Argentina to play with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Cordoba where her performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.3 was recorded live.

Now 36, Hammond has performed both solo and with orchestras in Australia, the UK, Italy, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, North America and South America. Her recital at the Goethe Institute starts at 8pm. Tickets cost 250 and 500 baht and can be purchased from the Robinson piano showroom at Siam Discovery (tel 02-658-1080/1).
