Beyond 5 storms through Asia

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Beyond 5, a group of five super-talented boys between the ages of 14 and 18, will sing and dance their way across eight nations this month. The schedule includes performances in Thailand next Wednesday and Friday.

Beyond 5 will perform in Phitsanulok on Aug 14 and Bangkok on Aug 16.

Their goodwill tour, hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, began in Mongolia and travels to Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong and will finish in Taiwan on Aug 29.

The Asia tour will comprise 23 free concerts. Many children with disabilities from various organisations will be attending the shows.

They will perform at Wangchan Riverview North Culture Centre in Phitsanulok province on Wednesday and again in Bangkok at the TOT Auditorium on Chaeng Watthana Road next Friday, starting at 7pm.

Thai artist Ake Surachet from RS will be singing for charity for 15 minutes during the intermission on both shows.

Beyond 5 is the brainchild of producer and popular music composer, Tyler Castleton, who has co-written songs for such famous musicians as country music star Martina McBride, legendary music icon Gladys Knight, and entertainer Marie Osmond. He has composed scores for National Geographic, Animal Planet as well as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Castleton and fellow Beyond 5 producer Russ Dixon, also an accomplished songwriter and record producer, are bringing the band to Asia before an extensive autumn tour through the US.

Auditions, similar to those for American Idol, were held for more than 300 young men from about 40 states and foreign countries.

The competition yielded five talented young men, from Texas, Utah, California and Australia.

In addition to the free concerts, the group is also partnering with the Make a World of Difference Foundation, another non-profit group that is providing 12,000 free books for underprivileged children in support of local charities in the host nations.

Thailand will receive many of those books, which will be donated to several organisations.

Audience members are invited to bring a book to donate, but a donation is not required to attend the concert.

However, a ticket is required to be admitted.
