Air Supply to play Yangon gig

Australian 1980s band Air Supply is to play its first concert in Myanmar on Thursday.

The profits from the charity gig will fund education projects for children in Kachin and Chin states over the next academic year.

Iron Cross, a popular Myanmar rock band, will support the Australian musicians, Bagan Entertainment manager Nyi Nyi told the Irrawaddy.

Bagan Entertainment, which organised the concert, promised that Air Supply would not be the last big name to play before audiences in Myanmar. "Other international bands are also going to be invited soon," the Irrawaddy quoted him as saying.

Air Supply has a string of internationally acclaimed hits including All Out Of Love, Chances, The One That You Love and Even The Nights Are Better.

Their founding members - Graham Russel and Russell Hitchcock - will lead musicians expected to include Rex Goh, David Moyse, Mark McEntee and Frank Esler-Smith in the concert in Myanmar's business capital.

Air Supply are the most famous musicians to visit Myanmar after Jason Mraz, a US singer and songwriter, took his band to perform in Yangon in December last year in a free concert against human trafficking.
