Jazz greats to play riverside

This winter, jazz lovers in Bangkok will have a chance to enjoy world-class music amidst the cool breeze on the riverfront of Asiatique as top artists from the US, the UK, Singapore and Thailand are set to perform at the end of this month.

They will be crooning hits during the "River Jazz Festival", which returns with two days of exciting line-ups on Nov 30 and Dec 1. The first evening will see a Bangkok debut of Singapore's bossa nova singer Olivia Ong and the comeback of British jazz-funk band Shakatak.

Olivia, 28, is best known for her soft, sweet voice that has made her albums among the favourites of many jazz listeners. Most of her works are in English, but she has also recorded songs in Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese.

She will be joined by the well-known quartet, Shakatak, who were last seen performing in a jazz festival in Hua Hin four years ago.

On Dec 1 all-time favourite star Natalie Cole will sing. She impressed many fans with her soulful vocals in Bangkok three years ago.

The 63-year-old diva has won numerous Grammy awards and has sold over 30 million records worldwide.

The two-day jazz phenomenon will also feature many local artists including Ben Chalatit, Marisa Sukosol Nunphakdi featuring pianist Frank Herrgott, Dolchai Boonyaratavej, Porntipa Thawornbudha, Pimdao "Mudmee" Panichsamai, Lorenzo Santos and Premika Sucharitkul.
