ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Welcome to Guru's Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

LIVE MUSIC

After a pretty epic year, Paradise Bangkok are celebrating their recent riches with a party on Sat (Dec 14) for the release of the auspiciously titled album called The Album. Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band will perform on the back of a successful international tour. Props to Maft Sai (and Chris Menist) for bringing the buffalo twang to the world, giving an alternative face of the country rather than the political quagmire. The band are taking a break from recording another album, ahead of a big touring schedule next year apparently. The show is on at Cosmic Cafe (RCA Block C), from 9pm. Entry is B400, with a shot of the lethal/required ya dong on the door. You also get a CD of the band, which might be worth keeping. The party has developed quite the back catalogue, which is available at their HQ down in Thong Lor at ZudRangMa Records (Sukhumvit Soi 51, www.zudrangmarecords.com).

MUSICAL

Today (Dec 13) is indeed the dreaded Friday the 13th, so we all may as well embrace our fate and revel in what superstition has in store for us. An adaption of The Rocky Horror Show returns to the city at Checkinn99 (97 Sukhumvit Road, www.checkinn99bkk.com), the self-proclaimed oldest bar in the city, which is still kitted out with bow-tied waiters and timeless ambience. Rock out to the famous rocky hits such as "Sweet Transvestite", "Dammit Janet" and "Time Warp" with a trans-tastic soundtrack coming from resident band Music of the Heart. Love them or hate them, the rest of the world is doing musicals, so why shouldn't Bangkok? Tickets are B1,200 (B800 for Comedy Club members), available from the venue, with B99 snacks on offer all night. Show starts at 8pm.

FARMERS' MARKET

With the glorious winter weather in full swing, it's time to head outdoors and lap it up. Winter Twilight Market December continues the momentum they have built up this year tonight (Dec 13) with another gastro spread again at K Village (93, 95 Sukhumvit Soi 26, 02-258-9919, www.kvillagebangkok.com). It will be the same players in the same spot, doing it well again. It's the perfect opportunity to fill up your fridge for the festive season. Entry is free.

PARTY

New party crew Tropical Dope are hosting their launch event on Sat (Dec 14) with headliner act Horseman and special guest Omar on the mic. Inspired by the sultry break-beat heat of 1970s Miami, the crew run by Prince Fatty are bringing the dulcet reggae beats of Africa, South America and beyond to our shores for the first time. Support will come from local jocks Moola and Mizuyo. Sharpen your dreadlocks. It's at untested venue Rockademy Thailand (A Square, Sukhumvit Soi 24). Entry is B400 on the door. Go see. G
