Guitarist Ekachai Jearakul's recent win at an international competition is an end and a beginning wrapped up in one

Ekachai Jearakul is so over competing in classical guitar competitions. His first place win at the 2014 Guitar Foundation of America International Artist Competition in Los Angeles, known as “the Olympics of classic guitar”, will also be his last.

At 27, the Ubon Ratchathani native has competed in over 30 competitions, winning titles across the globe, from Bratislava to Singapore to New York. But now that he’s achieved the ultimate title, he will no longer play competitively.
