Thailand will compete in August for the title of world champion of public speaking

Arnulfo S. Aniel (Arnie), a Filipino national, won the district-level competition of the Toastmasters International Speech contest on Sunday, May 21, 2017 and advances to the semifinal rounds of the contest, vying for one of 10 spots in the World Championship of Public Speaking® to be held at the 86th Toastmasters International Convention on Friday, August 25 in Vancouver, Canada.

Arnie, a member of Bangkok Toastmasters Club, surpassed fierce competition to win over the judges. His speech, "The Key Within." touched on the themes of criticism, failure, and rejection and his journey to overcome challenges. When it comes to connecting with an audience, he said, "The key is to have a storyline that is relatable and impactful, but it does not stop there. You have to want to share a message that means something to you personally and that goes beyond the contest."

Arnie attended his first World Championship of Public Speaking contest held in 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, and was one of the semi-finalists.

This time Arnie will compete with 101 other semifinalists from districts around the world who advanced to the 2017 semifinal round after six-month process of competition at club, area, division, and district levels. Their five-to-seven minute speeches were judged on content, organization, gestures, and style,

"Toastmasters speech contests are another way to build your confidence, sharpen your skills and speak to many different audiences," says Arnie," I am looking forward to another opportunity to represent our District 97P and share my message to a bigger audience in Vancouver!" Arnie is a freelance consultant and professional trainer in Bangkok whose clients include, but not limited to. manufacturing company, hotels, universities, non-profit organizations, and language centers. He joined Toastmasters to become a better speaker and leader at work and in the community. 

The Toastmasters International Speech Contest began in 1938 and is the world’s largest speech contest, involving 30,000 participants from 142 countries. It culminates with the popular World Championship of Public Speaking held annually at the organization’s International Convention.
