Internationally-renowned American cellist Mark Kosower will join Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) as guest soloist during the “Master Of The Cello” concert held at Mahidol University’s Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on June 12 at 7pm and June 13 at 4pm.

Universally admired by critics and fellow musicians, Kosower has earned an extraordinary international reputation for his instrumental mastery, musical integrity and powerfully expressive performances as a soloist with numerous orchestras throughout the world.

The principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra will perform Cello Concerto In B Minor Op 104, one of the greatest and most popular concertos for cello ever written. Antonin Dvorak composed this piece in 1895 and it is often called Dvorak’s 10th symphony, thanks to its richness and complexity.

Kosower also performs the overture from The Bartered Bride by Bedrich Smetana, the father of Czech national music, who integrated traditional dance forms from Bohemian regions.

In the second half of the programme, the TPO will be led by British-American conductor Dr Russell Guyver in a performance of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No.2 and a selection of Thai traditional music.

Tickets cost 300 and 500 baht (100 baht for students up to bachelor’s degree) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major (visit www.thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456) or by calling 02-800-2525—34 ext 153/4.

There’s a Salaya Link shuttle bus service from Bangwa BTS station to the university. Visit www.music.mahidol.ac.th/salayalink.
