Scarves in Thailand surely play a more aesthetic than practical function _ unless you use one to cover your head to protect it from the sun's rays like a construction worker (not so likely).
With no crucial use for a scarf here, the most important thing is that it has a gorgeous pattern and is beautiful to be draped in.
Scarves can also serve as an extra layer to really jazz up a dull outfit, act as a shield from the office's cruel air-con, or as adornment for handbags and whatever you please.
