Elle Decoration Thailand celebrates 20 years with A-list designs

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

To celebrate its 20th anniversary and to underline its position as Thailand's leading homes and lifestyle magazine, Elle Decoration Thailand, together with Siam Centre and Siam Discovery, with support from Ananda Development Public Company Limited and Citibank Thailand, hosts a special exhibition entitled "Elle Decoration The A-List Design @ Siam Centre & Siam Discovery". The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held last Friday at Atrium 2 of Siam Centre.

The exhibition showcases outstanding works from 30 of Thailand's iconic and up-and-coming product designers including products from ODS, the exclusive home decor and lifestyle store located on the 3rd floor of Siam Discovery.

Under the concept of "A Design With A Story To Be Shared", each designer will also share fascinating stories and inspirations. The exhibition is, thus, among the not-to-be-missed, especially for those in the industry or otherwise interested in design.

Among designers showcasing his work at the exhibition is painter and sculptor Udom Udomsrianan, who was first recognised from BIG&BIH 2000 under his brand Planet 2001, featuring furniture made from natural materials including rattan, fibre plants and wood. With his 20 years' experience working under the concept of minimalism, Udom is now chief of design and artist of Planet 2001.

The exhibition also features Alexander Lamont's Agata Cabinet, a cabinet made of straw. Lamont is renowned for his ability to create in his design an interesting blend of East and West. Due to his respect for the materials he uses and his fine craftsmanship, Lamont was awarded the 2007 Unesco Award of Excellence for Bronze Hammered Bowls. Silapathorn Award-winning artist Wasinburi Supanichwarapach also displays his deconstructed horse artwork entitled Apor#1 at the exhibition. Wasinburi is the third-generation owner of Ratchaburi-based Tao Hong Tai, ceramic showroom and factory, which has been operating since 1933.

Also present at last week's exhibition opening ceremony, as well as having their objets d'art on display, was award-winning artist Ploenchan Vinyaratn Roonprapunt, co-founder and design director of Beyond Living, a design company known for its handwoven textiles and soft furnishings; Thailand's leading innovative product designer Asst Prof Singh Intrachooto of the environmentally friendly furniture brand Osisu; and Suwan Khongkhunthain of Yothaka International, an internationally recognised local maker of bamboo, rattan, wicker and water hyacinth furniture.

"Elle Decoration The A-List Design @ Siam Centre & Siam Discovery" is on display until Aug 7 at Atrium 2, 1st floor, Siam Centre, Idea Avenue 4, 1st floor, Siam Centre and 2nd floor, Siam Discovery.
