Beating those make-up woes

Beating those make-up woes

Keep your face looking glorious all day, every day, whatever the weather

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Make-up and skincare have now become an integral part of many women's daily life. Some women even say that they will not leave home without putting on make-up, because they are not confident about how they look au naturale. However, make-up can also be a source of concern. With sweat, humidity, heat, and other activities, it is common for make-up to change, and not always for the better. Here are simple solutions to common make-up woes experienced by most women who wear make-up regularly.

Sticky situation

Our skin needs moisturiser to stay healthy, but it can take so long to get absorbed. Moisturising your skin in the morning can leave you feeling sticky or even leave stains on your clothes. The trick is to find lightweight, quick-absorbing moisturiser and apply it immediately after your morning shower, when the skin is still damp. The post-shower moisture helps dilute the moisturiser and decreases the stickiness, while the post-shower skin absorbs moisturising ingredients more effectively. Today, there are many in-shower moisturisers which take just seconds to work, minus the annoying sticky feeling.

Eyebrows gone with the wind

For those with thin eyebrows, an eyebrow pencil is a real life saver. It helps add dimension and definition to the otherwise bland face. However, since our eyebrows are the first fortress that shoulder the sweat coming from the hairline, eyebrow colour is usually gone by the end of the day. Sweaty activities like exercise or walking along the street often leave the perfectly drawn eyebrows naked. The solution is to use eyebrow primer and eyebrow mascara to help secure the colour longer. Gel-type eyebrow pencil also lasts longer than powder-type.

Smudge gets in your eyes

Eye make-up can be tricky. Dark colours, in particular, can be hard to undo once you've applied them. A good brush can make a big difference. The idea is to blend the colour so that it doesn't look smudgy. First-timers should always stick to lighter colours in satin or shimmer texture, as matte eyeshadow is harder to blend. For eyeliner, aim for a fine line and gradually increase the thickness to make sure you do not overdraw it. If you want to undo the mistake, a make-up eraser pen can help. In case you don't have one, cotton buds and make-up remover do the job just fine, too.

Unsolid foundation

Foundation can transform your skin, but your skin can also transform the foundation once it becomes oily. Foundation can smudge and crease during the day, especially in this hot and humid weather. Applying setting powder can help keep make-up on the skin longer, and reduce shine during the day. When the skin becomes greasy, dust the setting powder on it instead of putting on more foundation or powder, as that will make the make-up too thick and unnatural.
