'Bride' refuses to pay

Convicted fraudster Nathan Oman, who is boasting of his pending marriage to a millionaire, has some bad news for his major creditor whom he defrauded of more than 700,000 baht — she can wait.

Nathan, who is promoting himself relentlessly on social media as he refashions himself as a hi-so "bride" in waiting, claims he is no longer obliged to pay back trader Sithiporn "Mod" Kortudomporn.

Mod, who sells Thai noodles at a market in Chiang Khan district, Loei, said Nathan has yet to pay back the debt which the court found he owes her. That debt and the fraud which surrounded it led to him being thrown in jail in 2010. He served eight months before receiving a pardon to mark the King's birthday.

The struggling market trader was forced to turn to loan sharks and faced the loss of her house after Nathan persuaded to invest in a tour business which failed to go ahead. She came forward after Nathan, who has come out since his spell in jail, re-emerged from obscurity last month with a new set of sculptured eyebrows and claims he was seeing a millionaire boyfriend.

The former boyband singer said his male lover, who runs businesses in the troubled South, has asked for his hand in "marriage". Last week he published on social media an image of him and his boyfriend, face obscured, lying in bed together. He also responded to Mod's plea, warning her not to exploit his boyfriend's riches for her own benefit.

"Once I am married, we can talk. But for now you have to wait, as I have nothing," he said in a television interview, referring to Mod.

"I just want to say that the things I have done are now in the past. I am out of jail and I feel as if I am a new person. I don't want to cause people upset any more. Apart from that, I have served my time in jail, so I don't have to pay my debt.

"Owing to my manners as a Thai, I will still give it to you. I agreed with you to pay the money back, but that's it.

"Don't go thinking of my boyfriend's money until we are married. Don't go expecting anything from the man I love, or try to make my boyfriend's money an issue. It won't do any good, as I feel unmoved."

Shortly before his conviction Nathan admitted he had spun exotic stories about himself to persuade a string of victims to part with their money.

These included claims that he was half-Nepalese, multilingual, and was acting in a Hollywood blockbuster set in the Middle East about his rocky childhood and path to stardom.

News reports say the judge who sent Nathan to jail also insisted he also must pay back his debt to Mod. Netizens say Nathan appears not to have changed his stripes, despite his claims.

"I refuse to read about this man. He's the pits. At a time when Thais are celebrating His Majesty the King's birthday, he should keep his head down rather than trying to draw attention to himself," one said.

Kind act shines through

Director Yuthlert "Tom" Sippapak is winning praise for donating 100,000 baht to the family of a young woman hurt in a drink-driving accident, just days after the loss of his son.

Tom last week donated the money, raised from friends and relatives, to the mother of Nong Nammon, who sustained multiple broken bones after a pickup truck hit her and four others while they were visiting a gold shop in Bangkok last month.

Nammon is in a wheelchair recovering from her injuries. Her mother, who was forced to stop work to care for her daughter, had to resort to underground money-lenders to help pay her medical bills.

The injured girl's mother thanked Tom for his generosity.

"I will spend the money paying down those debts," she said. Tom and his wife last Monday lost their son Ka-techin Sippapak, aged four days, after he developed breathing problems. Mourners who attended his funeral at a Thon Buri temple on Thursday were presented with a photograph of the infant with the message: "Life is short. Love each other."

On the internet, fans praised Tom for his act of generosity. "Can I applaud you from the bottom of my heart. I hope your child's spirit prospers, and that you are able to bring another life into the world soon," one wrote.

Tom said it gave him comfort to know that his son was going to a better place.

Kohtee's new girlfriend

Comedian Kohtee Aramboy has broken up with his love of 12 years and taken up with a new girlfriend who he hopes to marry next year.

Opening up about his love life last week, the rotund comedian blamed himself for the end of his long-term relationship with "Oiy", who works outside the industry. He and his new admirer hope to get engaged within months.

Kohtee published images on social media of him and his new love with their backs to the camera, floating a krathong. He will ask his girlfriend's permission to make her name public, as he wants to show her off. His old girlfriend, Oiy, stayed largely under wraps. "We have known each other about seven months, and have been talking for the last four. I can only love one person at a time, so a third hand was involved. Nor did I take up with my new love to spite Oiy," Kohtee said.

"I feel OK now. In the beginning went to work as usual, but was going home in tears every night. No one knew except [Channel 3 news anchor] Sorayut Suthassanachinda. He saw me listening to songs which guests performed, and I would start to cry.

"When we quit with someone old we have to take up with someone new as the heart desires.

"We need someone to inspire us and give us energy at work. Of course I am saddened by the end of the old affair, but when it came time to end it, I just did it. I admit I am to blame, and I don't want to bother her now. What's done is done."

Peuy's marriage 'cool'

Sexy model Panward "Peuy" Hemmanee is keen to dampen speculation that her marriage to Nithi "Pop" Boonyaratglin, the son of former coup leader Sonthi, is under strain, after she fled a waiting corps of reporters last week.

Peuy, Pop and their young son appear on a television show tonight to present a positive family portrait.

Peuy fled a fashion show at the CentralWorld department store on Wednesday, with her friend, actress and model Panita "Ning" Tumwattana, helping her push their way through a throng of reporters.

The journalists had gathered hoping to ask Peuy about a cryptic remark she left on social media last month which many took to refer to her husband.

"Should I stay, or carry on?" she asked somewhat cryptically.

She also deleted Pop's picture from Instagram.

Peuy later explained she was stressed with work, and denied arguing with Pop, who is in the navy. She published pictures of the two playing with their one-year-old son, Prort.

The ASTV/Manager newspaper said Peuy was stressed about a woman in uniform with whom Pop had worked regularly.

Word of their friendship reached Peuy, who let off steam on social media.

Her fleet-footed appearance at the department store has only revived speculation she and Pop are having problems.

The pair married in June 2012, with Peuy converting to the Muslim faith to be with him.

Publicity for tonight's appearance says the public should not be too hasty to judge, as everything is happy in the Boonyaratglin household. Sceptics are not convinced.

"I don't believe the assurances. Peuy's manager is good at spinning stories. Before long the pair will announce it's all over," said one cynic, warning that her husband's Islamic religion allows him to take up to four wives.
