Read, live life

Read, live life

If you are big on YOLO, this book is full of ideas for the adventurous

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

When Hollywood icon of the early 20th century Mae West said "You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough", she set the sentiments that many would later follow. Decades after the famous words were uttered, many variations of the quote have emerged; the most recent taking the form of the acronym YOLO.

Hot-air balloons over Cappadocia in Turkey.

If you consider yourself someone who takes the YOLO motto seriously, but are holding back for some reason, let You Only Live Once guide you through. As the name of the book suggests, it provides readers with a gazillion ideas and inspirations for living life to the fullest.

The book is separated into five chapters. The first, "An Hour", focuses on things that people can do within 60 minutes, like watching penguin chicks hatching in the Antarctic, to going ballooning in Turkey.

Go back to basics and experience the serenity at Bhutan’s Tiger’s Nest Monastery.

The second chapter, "A Day", lists a plethora of once-in-a-life-time experiences, including numerous festivals and having your dream come true at castle hotels such as Ashford Castle in Ireland. You can also spend a night with belugas at Vancouver Aquarium.

The third chapter, "A Week", is for those with a little bit more time. Here, things start to get more engaging and complicated. A week allows you to absorb the atmosphere of places more slowly and meaningfully. Let yourself drink in the beauty of the autumn leaves in Japan or go on a majestic safari in Africa to watch wildlife from the best angle ever.

You may have probably picked up on the style of the book now. The fourth chapter, "A Month", is enough time for you to heal your soul and take a break away from everything that bothers you. Catch the Trans-Siberian railway that runs across Russia, Mongolia and China to watch the views of a lifetime while also perhaps figuring your life out at the same time. If you want a big-hearted travel experience, volunteering can be a great option. If you love summer, then go learn how to catch waves at Mexico beaches.

The fifth chapter is, you've guessed it, "A Year". A year can change everything and you can learn heaps from it. In a year, you can learn to be a pilot, learn a new language, or travel around the globe by bicycle.

You Only Live Once has lots of ideas to live a life well-lived, all you have to do, after you've finished it, is put the book down and go do some of them.

Be in charge of your sky-high destiny by learning to be a pilot at the Serengeti.

Letting belugas give you a good night kiss.
