Texture is as important as colour when choosing a lip beautifier. From watery tint and gloss to balm and supreme-matte, try the many textures in selecting a tube, which can sometimes cost 1,000 baht or more.

Still, women can't resist purchasing them to make a statement on lips, from luminous nudes to knockout reds.

The many textures also make wearing lip products even more fun. So why not spread jam on this sensual organ?

A hybrid between a lip colour and gloss, Shimmering Lip Jam is a key product from Three's spring 2015 collection, Let's Dance.

The nude beige Ravishing Tango is one of the 11 lip jams made with botanical oils from tea seed, argan, jojoba, evening primrose and rosehip, which nourish the lips' delicate surfaces.

This season, the Japanese brand emphasises beautiful and healthy lips, with the spring collection also featuring Lip Conscious Protector with sunscreen, to be applied as a primer or alone, for a natural look.

Other primers include Guerlain Liplift that envelops lips while trapping the oils of lipstick for long wear, and Manuka Doctor Apirefine Lip Enhancer with purified bee venom and New Zealand Manuka honey for a plumping effect.

Fragile lips have less melanin, and no sweat and sebaceous glands of their own, thus lacking a protective mechanism, making them dry, chapped, flaky and ruining the surface for smoothly sweeping on lipstick.

Lip care and colour are combined in Rouge Dior Baume, rich in naturally derived lipcare ingredients, 10 times more than a classic lipstick. A gloss that acts like a lipstick, Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss features hydrating emollient oils and an antioxidant complex for protection against environmental assaults.

To tackle dry lips, YSL Beaute has developed a new generation of lip oil infused with colour. Containing five lip-nourishing oils, Volupte Tint-in-Oil is a hybrid formula requiring a stabilising technology to disperse and homogeneously solubilise colour particles in the oil. The pigments are captured within the oils to dispense the tint that interacts with lip tone to give a bespoke colour finish that becomes more vibrant after application.

Tom Ford Beauty is known for its coveted and costly lipsticks at almost 2,000 baht, justified by containing exotic ingredients including soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil to create an ultra-creamy texture for a smooth application.

The new collection pays tribute to the male gender, with shades named after men, such as a magenta Jack, a brown Henry, a pink Michael and a mauve Richard. The American designer encourages flirting with the lipsticks by having several "men" caressing your lips.
