Although well into January, the festive season is far from over for Japanese brand Shu Uemura, which is still lighting up fireworks to welcome spring 2015.

The "explosive" make-up under the Metallic Bouquet collection is inspired by Hanabi fireworks that decorate Tokyo's night sky during the New Year and in summer festivals.

"I wanted to create a festive look that makes you feel exhilarated, like fireworks at night twinkling and sparkling," said international artistic director Uchiide.

The eyes are the focal point of two spring looks created by the make-up artist.

The spring collection thus stars Metal:Ink, a long-lasting liquid liner available in 10 metallic fireworks-inspired shades. The fast-drying and waterproof formula creates a flexible film with good adhesion to the skin, allowing an intense colour pay-off.

Eye definers include black and navy while vibrant shades include red, pink and green. Uchiide encourages using more than one colour, for example blue accented by purple, green with a brown tail, or pink and purple with a touch of silver.

The liners themselves allow a fashionable statement on eyes while lips balance the metallic look in soft feminine shades of iris mauve, comet pink or poppy orange.

Spring looks from other cosmetic brands emphasise bold lips whereas Shu Uemura's focus is on playful peepers, also created with hues from Metallic Bouquet pressed eyeshadows and false lashes.

"Overall, the key for the spring look is to enjoy the contrast between the soft, light and fresh colours of the eyeshadows, matching the skin tone, and the vivid glimmering wet-look of the eyeliners, creating a happy and playful style," Uchiide said.

Application of the brand's latest make-up trend has been spotted in Tokyo's high fashion Omotesando district, where fashion-savvy women bat metallic eyes in various ways to bring out their individuality.
