'Triple-tested', 'foolproof' ways to get your sugar rush at home

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

'To you and your sweet tooth." There is no better introduction for a book such as Sweet — a Food Network Magazine compilation of all things sugary and chocolatey that can make anyone drool (and possibly end up in a dentist's chair). The book provides a long list of diverse recipes guaranteed to be "triple-tested" and "foolproof". It promises easy-to-follow instructions, seemingly ready to turn its readers into gourmet dessert chefs.

From cupcakes and cookies to candies, nearly every type of sweet imaginable can be made by following recipes in Sweet. An estimated total time the dessert will take to make is provided, as is number of treats that can be made from a single recipe.

As for the recipes themselves, there's one for all occasions, from Halloween to Christmas. Even if you're just having dinner with friends, what's stopping you from wowing them with your newfound culinary skills?

The book allows you to be as creative as you'd like. Substitute, for instance, buttermilk with whole milk and plain yoghurt. Or why not try mixing savoury and sweet by making a bacon cheesecake? The recipe — as well as many others — is surely worth a try, should you have a free afternoon.

If you'd rather keep things simple and traditional, there are always the classics — chewy chocolate chip cookies, for example. If your house is filled with children and you need to keep them busy, there are fun projects that can be used as delicious tools of distraction, such as making edible trees from gummies and jellies.

Sweet also contains useful tips, such as how to properly mix colours to create different shades of frosting. A colour chart is also provided. Still in need of ideas? Various suggestions throughout the book offer tips on how to put a personal twist on the existing recipes.
