Iconic brands get a makeover

The hottest, revamped leather bags to grab this season

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

This season is all about the rebirth of old favourites. From the US to France, and all countries in between, iconic bags from various high-end powerhouses are getting a revamp. Coming in more modern silhouettes and with a new edge, they breathe fresh air into long-standing brands that have been around for decades.

Loewe

The Spanish fashion house is looking to create a more contemporary image for themselves this year with the Puzzle bag. As one of the newest creations by Jonathan Anderson since he took over as the brand's creative director in 2014, this hotly-anticipated shoulder candy pushes the boundaries for bags. Exhibiting the highest form of craftsmanship with a complex body to duplicate, the Puzzle bag is made from over 40 pieces of sliced leather sewn together. It's not only roomy and bold, it can also be folded. A puzzling complexity, yet one that is still very practical for everyday use.

Ralph Lauren

The latest it-bag from American shores is a new Ricky icon: the Ricky drawstring bag. The last Ricky bag was heavy with details and pockets — almost too distracting and far from an effortless statement. The catch we like about this one is that the drawstring closure is actually behind the bag, thus giving the front a clean finish that fully showcases Ralph Lauren's custom logo-engraved signature Ricky lock. Handcrafted in Italy, they come in classic and seasonal colours, but bring a little fun with a contrasting calfskin lining inside.

Longchamp

We all seem to have one of those flimsy Pliage bags by this French house. However, it's last season's Pliage Heritage that gives a trapezoidal structure and a luxurious upgrade to the old foldable favourite. Ironic and even funny, Le Pliage Heritage is a tongue-in-cheek, modern must-have that plays on the signature Pliage shape which has become the trademark of Longchamp. There are three new variations this season offers: crisp neon edges with Le Pliage Heritage Neon, a downsized version in delicious-looking colours with Le Pliage Heritage Small and finally, striking patterns and baby calf hair on the front and back of Le Pliage Heritage Luxe.
