It was a night full of sparkle and glamour when a joint event was held at Impact Muang Thong Thani during the Bangkok International Motor Show recently.

The Rolls-Royce Motor Cars corner in Challenger Hall 3 was sparkling, and only partly thanks to the sheen of the stunning Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection model on show, the only one in Southeast Asia from a mere 35 cars worldwide. There was also all the glitter of gems from the fashion show launching Beauty Gems’ latest diamond collection, valued at more than 350 million baht.

Co-hosting the event were Beauty Gems managing director Suriyon Sriorathaikul and Sunhavut Thamchuanviriya, the group managing director of Master Group Corporation (Asia) Ltd which owns the sole Rolls-Royce dealership in Thailand.

According to Mr Suriyon, the diamond set which was unveiled at the event was a masterpiece that took the company more than two years to design and produce. Known as The Perfection Collection, it comprises eight diamond sets, with the highlight set featuring seven magnificent Zambian emeralds totalling 104.81 carats surrounded by 649 diamonds totalling 101.11 carats, valued at 85 million baht. The set was worn by top model Metinee Kingpayome.

Meanwhile, Mr Sunhavut gave guests an insight into the iconic qualities of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection, which takes its inspiration from the water speed records set by Sir Malcolm Campbell in 1937. The exterior features a unique bespoke brushed steel deck with a matching bonnet. The colour, Maggiore Blue — inspired by the lake on which the 1937 record was set — is also reflected in details of the leather upholstery inside. The fact that Thailand was able to get the only version available in Southeast Asia from the limited number around the world is a testament to the positioning of Thailand as a world-class market.

Among the guests were the godfather of the Motor Show, Prachin Eamlumnow, who took his nephew Tanapong Komolmis to enjoy diamond shopping, Jarin Sumanont, Vanphen Choermpraprai, Supa Hongthong, and mother and daughter Aruya and Sidarat Buddhinan, as well as Piyapat Amatayakul and Jindapa Boonyakorn.

A Judith Leiber evening bag was auctioned to raise funds to support the Sai Jai Thai Foundation Under Royal Patronage, and the winner was the host’s high school friend Kongpetch Santisuphaporn, a real estate magnate, who took home the crystal-embedded clutch for 100,000 baht. Mr Suriyon’s father, Pornsit Sriorathaikul, added another 100,000 baht to bring the total donation to 200,000 baht.

Providing a musical interlude was Plengpraphan Kingtong, known as “Guitar” from The Voice Thailand. n
