Age delay to a tea

Age delay to a tea

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Fresh cosmetics co-founder Lev Glazman might have found the legendary fountain of youth in a cup of the energy-boosting Kombucha tea.

The fermented drink is made with a type of yeast, black tea and other ingredients. Upon discovering he had taken a sip of an “immortal health elixir”, Glazman researched its health and skincare benefits, using the findings to help him “brew” a series of beauty products.

Dating back to 250BC, Kombucha tea originated in the Far East, most likely China. Glazman believes in the beauty benefits of black tea (the fully fermented leaves of Camellia sinensis), which provide antioxidants (albeit less than those derived from unfermented green tea).

To better fight free radicals, a black tea ferment and extract are combined with blackberry leaves and lychee seed extract for a proprietary complex in the Black Tea Age-Delay skincare collection.

Each formula is enhanced with other ingredients, with the serum also featuring rice peptides, mamaku and evening primrose extract, as well as time-release “Hydro Patches” for trapping moisture.

The overnight mask promises a corset-like effect on the skin, for a more defined and contoured complexion through an intensive treatment of peptides, hyaluronic acid and an extract of belle de nuit.

The wild flower blooms after sunset and closes at dawn, much like the mask’s night-time performance, which is designed to work in synch with the skin’s natural recovery process, delivering ingredients when the skin is most receptive to them.

The 1956 launch of Re-Nutriv cream came with the catchphrase: “Every woman wants a little luxury in life.”

Almost 60 years later, the cream now pampers the skin with a culinary rarity — black diamond truffles.

The exquisite ingredient was featured in Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Sculpting/Refinishing Dual Infusion, released last year by Estée Lauder. The brand continues the range with Ultimate Diamond Transformative Energy Creme, priced at 17,000 baht.

The hefty price tag comes as no surprise — the black diamond (or Perigord) truffle can cost as much €1,500 (56,000 baht) per kilo, wholesale.

The American cosmetic giant sources fresh “extra class”, whole and mature marbled truffles from southwest France. The precious fungus goes through a nine-step process to obtain the extract. Typically, 10-15kg of truffles yield 1kg of pure extract.

Truffles are known for their aphrodisiac and therapeutic properties, as well as for being a source of strength. Likewise, the patent pending Black Diamond Truffle Extract is claimed to be a source of energy for the skin, allowing it to better defend itself against ageing.

The luxurious Re-Nutriv product also contains radiance-enhancing South Sea pearls and skin-calming 24K gold.

Estee Lauder has also added a platinum element to the Ultimate Diamond Sculpting/Refinishing Dual Infusion, which comes with a gold vial containing the truffle extract and a platinum vial with a blend of the pearls and brown algae.

The beauty elixirs from each vial are freshly mixed upon application to revitalise the skin before adding a layer of the cream containing the exclusive truffle extract, developed based on epigenetics — the study of chemical modification of specific genes or gene-associated proteins of an organism.
