His Majesty the King’s musical compositions provided the inspiration for four short films that recently premiered at Siam Pavalai Royal Grand Theatre, Siam Paragon. The red-carpet premiere took place earlier this month to mark Coronation Day.

The films, which appeared under the title “His Majesty the King’s Royal Compositions: Music in the Heart of the People”, were produced by Boon Rawd Brewery as the third part of a project to honour the musical talents of His Majesty the King.

The films carry on a campaign that has been held over the past two years, under which Boon Rawd Brewery and Singha Corporation have conducted three different projects. First was a 10-part documentary, where artists, musicians and others who have had the opportunity to work closely with His Majesty the King in the field of music related their inspiration from these royal compositions. Then came the Pro Musica Junior Camp supported by Boon Rawd Brewery, in which talented youth from every region of the country were selected to attend a string instrument workshop conducted by renowned music instructors from the Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University. They later performed at the Pro Musica Junior Concert at the Thewarat Sapharom Hall, Phaya Thai Palace.

Attending the premiere were more than 1,000 prominent figures from society and the entertainment industry. The films were by leading Thai directors Nonzee Nimibutr, whose piece The Singers was inspired by the song Chata Cheewit, sung by Neeranuch Pattamasut and Thanida Thamwimon (Da Endorphine); Wallop Prasopphol, whose Om Yim was prompted by Yim Su sung by Prakarn Raiva from Getsunova; Parkpoom Wongpoom, whose It Rains at Huay Kha Khaeng came about from hearing Sai Fon by Anchalee Jongkadeekij; and Yongyut Thongkongthun, whose film Dao was inspired by Kwarm Fun Un Soong Sood by Saharat Sangkapricha and Koranis Laosubinprasert.

Boon Rawd Brewery created this campaign to celebrate His Majesty’s musical talent and promote the royal compositions so that people, particularly the younger generation, might appreciate the value of these creations and become inspired through the messages from these films to do good deeds for society.

The most difficult part of the project, according to Boon Rawd Brewery, was selecting four songs from the total of 48 royal compositions, all of which had their own beauty, meaning and message. So the task was given to the four selected directors to choose the song that was closest to their hearts, which they then interpreted as they saw most fitting.

The resulting four films, totalling 130 minutes, were different in their creative style, yet each conveyed the beauty and message of the four songs in a deeply touching manner, reflecting the lives of people of different generations comprehensively. n
