Eastern Asia University (EAU) in co-operation with the Federation of Thai Industries and the Association of Researchers will organise the "Green Asia And Sustainability: Sustainable Cities", an international conference to provide a public platform for research presentations and discussions on subjects related to sustainability and environmental development. The conference will take place in the Convention Hall of Miracle Grand Convention Hotel on June 19 to 20 from 8am-5pm.

Last year's 'Green Asia And Sustainablitiy Forum', the first international conference on sustainability organised by Eastern Asia University.

According to Dr Chotiras Chavanich, president of EAU: "The university initiated this conference because it realises how important 'Green Asia and Sustainability' is to the world. At this conference, the development of research, research presentation and the initiation of innovative body of knowledge will be integrated with research results then be applied in public and private organisations."

Participants to the "Green Asia and Sustainability: Sustainable Cities" include scholars, lecturers, researchers and graduate students from overseas institutes, private industrial sectors in Thailand and Thai public and private universities. Three key issues — Management and Administration of Sustainable Cities, Sustainable Healthy Cities, and Sustainable Compact Cities, will be presented and discussed during the two-day event. Ideas and lessons learned will also be exchanged in order to improve sustainable development from research conducted from those experiences nationally and internationally.

The Management and Administration of Sustainable Cities will cover topics such as green cities, public policies and governance, public-private participation, city environment management, ecosystem, water resource management, laws and regulations and sectoral policies issues.

The Sustainable Healthy Cities will feature interesting issues on health provision, services and delivery, healthy ageing population, and food safety/organic food.

The Sustainable Compact Cities will present works on transport, ICT, communications and logistics, energy and alternative energy, green service industry and tourism, green agriculture and industry, and cultural development and green corporate social responsibility.

"This is the second international conference on sustainability organised by EAU," added Dr Chotiras. "Last year, EAU organised the 'Green Asia And Sustainablitiy Forum' and it was so successful it established an active academic networking among Eastern Asia University researchers and researchers from the public and private sector here and overseas. They have been working together since and have co-developed more research into the subject. On this, we are proud to be part of elevating the country's academic research area to an international level."

On Dec 28, 1999, the Thai cabinet approved and launched the national agenda of sustainable cities and communities with various initiatives that have been continued until today.

Hopefully, the outcome of "Green Asia And Sustainability Forum: Sustainable Cities" international conference will be useful for the development of sustainable cities and communities in Thailand.
