The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand (FCCT) and LightRocket, the region's leading online photo platform, have unveiled the winners of the 7th annual FCCT/LightRocket Asia-Pacific Photojournalism Contest.

The contest attracted submissions from more than 140 photographers and nearly 3,000 images. The top prize, Photographer of the Year, went to Swede Jonas Gratzer on his fresh, insightful pictures taken in challenging situations across Asia, including the protracted, sometimes violent street protests in Thailand.

The judges also selected winners in four categories: Spot News (won by Gratzer on Thailand's political protests); Feature Photography (won by Probal Rashid on his photos of Bangladeshi power-line workers); Environment (won by Ruben Salgado Escudero on his photos of Myanmar's solar power); and Photo Essay (won by Anik Rahman on the Bangladeshi ferry disaster).

The FCCT/LightRocket photo contest was launched in 2007 and has grown to become one of the most important photo events in Asia. Continuing strong interest from photographers is a reminder that photojournalism is alive and well in the region, despite economic pressures in the media industry that are making it harder for photojournalists to earn a living.
