Again, the spring 2016 make-up collections come as no surprise with pastels and bright hues taking over winter’s deeper-coloured palette.
No matter which vernal shades drape the eyes and lips, they don’t flatter unless set against glowing skin — a winning element of the season’s looks referenced in the naming of the collections such as Guerlain’s Spring Glow, Dior’s Glowing Garden and Bobbi Brown’s Bobbi Glow.
Gaining a gorgeous glow comes from a sweep of illuminating powder and a pop of blusher, with these two items dominating the spring collections.
Complexion enhancers include Guerlain’s Météorites Voyage featuring micro pearls, Bobbi Brown’s Highlighting Powder with light-reflective pearls and Diorskin Nude Air Glowing Gardens with fine illuminating pigments.
For an iridescent finish, check out Yves Saint Laurent Beaute’s Gypsy Opale palette with four correcting shades to even out skin tone, and Lancome’s My Parisian Pastels multicoloured cubes which provide a blend of corrective, healthy glow and illuminating powder.
Lancome’s spring 2016 limited editions also include the Play-doh blush in a vintage metallic case. A cosmetic innovation, the melting playdough texture imparts a veil of colour on the apples of the cheeks.
Other innovations include Yves Saint Laurent Beaute’s Fusion Ink Blush featuring gel-to-colour technology combining colouring agents with moisturising ingredients.
The season’s blushers also appeal with motifs, with Diorblush Glowing Gardens’ blooming flowers and Guerlain’s Rose aux Joues Blush Duo embossed with “SMILE”, to do so when applying it along the curves of the cheekbones. Interlacing ribbons of fuchsia, coral, red, coppery beige and pink form a geometric pattern on Sunkiss Ribbon from Chanel’s LA Sunrise collection. The light-diffusing blush combines hues evoking California morning light in which the rising Sun tints the sky in a harmony of shades.
Not only to sweep on the cheeks, it can be applied all over the entire face for a radiant finishing touch.
