Diorsnow range of cosmetics is specifically geared to the Asian market

Scientific networking between Dior's Helios Center in France and facilities in Tokyo and Shanghai demonstrate how cosmetic research and product development are specifically geared to Asian women, whose beauty aspirations include restoring a smooth and radiant complexion.

Due to repeated Sun exposure and ageing, hyperpigmentation alters the evenness and darkens the skin, posing a common beauty problem among Asians while driving the popularity of brightening products in the region whereas Caucasians may prefer the opposite tanning effect.

Dedicated to the Asian market, the Diorsnow range of cosmetics has been updated to deliver the French brand's Bright Beauty ideology characterised by a fresh, natural and blooming complexion.

"Bright beauty blooms from within," said Yasuhiro Tokunaga from the Dior Pro-Team. "So I emphasise taking good care of the skin. When the skin is in a good condition, doing the make-up is easy without involving many techniques."

Last week, the Japanese make-up artist was in Bangkok to demonstrate how to get the bright and blooming look with the new Diorsnow collection inspired by the light of the first days of spring reflecting on perfectly even skin texture and colour to reveal a fresh and rosy complexion.

"Women can recreate fresh and youthful-looking skin with a Bloom Perfect duo -- the Brightening Perfect Skin Creator and Perfect Moist Cushion, both offering Sun protection while complementing each other in unifying and brightening the skin," he said of the Diorsnow new additions.

Featuring Edelweiss extract and light-diffusing technology, the hybrid skin brightener is accompanied by a bouncy Beauty Bloomer applicator designed for massaging and lending an even finish.

Dior defines its Perfect Moist Cushion as a multitasking skincare delivered by the cushion compact developed by South Korean cosmetic giant AmorePacific. Other Western brands have also jumped on the cushion bandwagon as it has become a beauty must-have, particularly in Asia.

"Three shades have been designed for the Asian market. The lightweight watery texture also makes it suitable for use in Thailand's hot and humid climate. Moreover, the on-the-go Perfect Moist Cushion contains cooling agents that lower the skin temperature by 4C for refreshing touch-ups during the day," said Tokunaga.

Pressing the puff on the cushion picks up the skincare-cum-make-up that when tapped on the face lends a natural look and dewy finish. The everyday-use cushion doesn't replace foundation, he added, the latter allowing more shades and coverage for special occasion make-up.

"After the cushion, there's no need for powder unless you want a matte rather than a dewy finish, whereas in general you need to use powder to set foundation," he said.

Women may feel that they haven't completed the make-up process without powder. Thus the Diorsnow range does offer a mattifying loose powder with a shimmering rose tint and the illuminating Cherry Bloom Rosy Glow Powder combines four shades to highlight the face and to flush up the cheeks.

"A blush is my must-have item, with the variety of colours, textures and application techniques changing the mood of the make-up looks," he said. "Instead of a pop of colour, a sweep of blush from the cheekbone upwards and in parallel with the jawline gives a warmer and healthier glow for the Bright Beauty spring make-up look.''
