Thaksin 'firm' on referendum

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra still believes firmly that a public referendum should be held before the government attempts to amend the constitution, says his lawyer and close aide Noppadon Pattama.

Mr Noppadon said he personally believed that with a strong campaign, more than half of eligible voters would take part in the referendum, which would consequently reduce conflict in society.

He said the Pheu Thai government also believed, as did Thaksin, that a public referendum and amending the charter in its entirety were the best solution.

What strange people. Thaksin's sister said shes not sure about this plan so he responds not by chatting quietly with her but blasting out a contradictory message through his circus barker. Its like he has to prove his doggy is bigger than hers. His jealousy will burst a blood vessel one day

Once again he drops news on a Friday afternoon getting coverage without criticism all weekend when other news is quiet. This is a tactic straight from PR for Dummies.

Oh so many things to worry about...
"Thaksin is still firm on his opinion that a public referendum should be held before amending the charter" - implies that the charter change WILL happen regardless of the referendum.

There are no valid reasons to change the charter - just vague comments like 'it's undemocratic'.

'strong campaigning' - sounds like more re-education of the Thai public to do Thaksin's bidding.

' make sure they understand that the amendment was actually not aimed at altering Section 309 or helping anyone in particular' Simple... Affirm that 309 won't be changed then! See?
