THE WORD: GURU ASK
ELECTRO: There's lots of live music and art this week again, as the DJ-dominated party scene of the past abates. Things kick off tonight (Jul 19) with one half of brotherly outfit Kyoto Jazz Massive, who are known for their jazz-spiked production work that is very Japanese - precise, refined, on point. Venue is Fish (3/F, Cosmic Cafe, RCA Block C, Rama IX Road, 081-304-6907), which will hopefully bring in some extra hi-fi to accommodate the fresh soundscape of the guy. We're guessing he is just going to DJ, without any live elements on top but it's still a treat for the bedroom rockers of the city who will appear out of the ether for it. Entry is only B200.
For a rockier option tonight (Jul 19), things are going to get sentimental with a reunion gig for Futon. The band made it big on Smallroom music label before splitting to spawn the solo career of Bangkok's favourite (and tallest) diva, Gene Kasidit. This event will be a group affair, with support coming from Summer Stop, O-Pavee and Supersub. Venue is Sonic (90 Sukhumvit Soi 63, between Ekamai Soi 10 and Big C, 02-382-3395, tinyurl.com/ajozswa). Entry is B250 with a drink. Note the early start time of 7:30pm.
