Local flashy jewellery line Kanokkorn Lamlert returns for a second collection called “Queen Bee”, which shows that what she’s got up her sleeve is even better than before. Still sticking to using Plexiglas, a sophisticated yet light acrylic sometimes used as an alternative to glass, the pieces look like they’ve levelled up a notch, with more detailed lines and layered, movable parts.
Using the revisited dry-point technique, using a needle or sharp metals to draw before filling in with colour, the lines on the Plexiglas create miniscule and stylised gems that are much tinier and more complex than last season. Drawing inspiration from treasures of queens such as Queen Elizabeth and Marie Antoinette, old shapes are given a contemporary spin, where bright colours and everyday-wear appeal are apparent.
“Queen Bee” is much more playful in using many colours rather than sticking to just one, while also toying around with how different layers look from different angles and against each other. This collection also introduces the launch of bracelets, which feature bright Plexiglas attached to a gold-plated brass chain. The earrings may not be as humongous as those from the previous glow-in-the-dark series, but the fun and fresh factor is intact, while still being able to command attention in a queenly fashion. A must-have if you want to make a frisky yet regal statement.
