Mr Chalerm, who is in charge of national drug suppression, said this after attending a meeting with other deputy prime ministers and ministers in charge of the government's major policies, chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Many issues were raised for discussion, including flood prevention, corruption and illegal drugs.

The prime minister agreed with a proposal to post drug suppression officials in four neighbouring countries which are sources of drugs - China (in Yunnan province), Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.

The proposal would be submitted to the cabinet for approval next week.  Police or officials of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board  sent to conduct intelligence operations in the four countries must be highly experienced and capable in drug suppression, he said.
