Poll: Suthep playing political game

A majority of people think Democrat Party MP Suthep Thaugsuban was playing political games when he claimed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra sent middlemen to sound out the party about joining in a national government with Pheu Thai in exchange for not opposing the charter amendment bill and reconciliation bills, according the results of a Suan Dusit Poll released on Wednesday.

The pollsters surveyed 1,398 people in Bangkok and nearby provinces between June 18-20.

To the question if they thought Mr Suthep's was playing political games, 73.86 per cent said "yes", 21.13 per cent were not certain about it, and 5.01 per cent said "no."

Asked if they believed what Mr Suthep said, 47.96 per cent said they were not sure, 29.03 per cent did not believe it was true, and 23.01 per cent believed in it.

And 84.12 per cent of the respondents said a government without an opposition (a unity government) was not acceptable to them, while 15.88 per cent said it was acceptable as long as it could resolve or end all problems.
