Their return will be officially announced by the party Tuesday at 1.30pm.
Mr Pongpol was a co-founder of the Chart Thai Party before joining Thai Rak Thai headed by Thaksin Shinawatra as an executive. He was a member of the House No.111 group whose five-year political ban after the dissolution of Thai Rak Thai expired in May.
His son, Parapol, is a former Pheu Thai member. He ran unsuccessful in the last election for the Bhumjaithai Party in Saraburi.
Vachara Kannikar, the Chartthaipattana spokesman, said the two had long been in contact with the party's senior figures including Banharn Silpa-archa on the issue of membership.
Mr Pongpol's return to his former "home" was certain to strengthen the party, taking into consideration his connections with various political groups, he added.
Mr Parapol is a young politician with a strong support base, Mr Vachara said.
Mr Parapol said he still had to decide which of the four constituencies in Saraburi he would contest in the next election.
