Don Muang Police said they responded to a report that a woman had been attacked near Klong Riep Prapa road and was in need of assistance.
Police found Ms Somjai (surname withheld), 37, clad only in her underwear and with several bruises on her face and body. They said she works as a motorcycle taxi driver at Soi Sanwee 5.
The victim told police she was hired by a man to take him to Burapha 25 housing estate.
However, the passenger pulled out the motorcycle ignition keys half way to the destination and tried to force himself on her.
She said she first pleaded for mercy, but changed her tactics when he did not back down.
She said he pulled off some of her clothes and hit her several times. Then she saw an opportunity and kicked him hard in the groin, forcing him to back off.
Ms Somjai told police she ran away yelling at the top of voice, calling for help. The rapist rode away on her motorcycle, which was later found abandoned on the roadside a few kilometres away.
Police said they had pictures of her attacker from a surveillance camera in the area and would arrest him.
