Asst village chief slain in Narathiwat
An assistant village headman was shot and killed in an ambush at his rubber farm in Narathiwat’s Chanae district early Thursday morning, police said.

Pol Sub-Lt Chainarong Jawa, duty officer at Chanae police station, said he received a report of the attack about 6.30am and led a team of police and soldiers to the scene.
Police found five spent cartridges from an AK47 assault rifle in the forest near the the scene.
Villagers advised him that that the body of the victim had been taken to Chanae hospital for a post mortem examination.
He was identified as Ibroheng Taleh, 49, an assistant headman of Ban Namwon in tambon Chang Phuag of Chanae district.
Witnesses told police that Ibroheng was working in his plantation when a gunman hiding in nearby forest fired on him with an AK47 assault rifle. The attacker then fled.
He was shot three times, in the head and torso, and died on the spot.
Police blame separatist militants.
