City's Edin Dzeko sidefooted in a low James Milner cross before a Daniel Sturridge thunderbolt levelled matters.
A backpass from City's Pablo Zabaleta trickled just wide but a Steven Gerrard strike put the Reds back in front.
However, Aguero capitalised on a mistake by keeper Pepe Reina to fire in from a tight angle to equalise in the 78th minute.
In the early match, Gareth Bale scored the only goal in a moment of inspiration to carry Tottenham Hotspur over 10-man West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
Just two minutes into the second half, Goran Popov got a red card for spitting in the direction of Kyle Walker - after which point Spurs dominated completely.
Twenty minutes later, Bale slammed an unstoppable 20-yarder, his 11th league goal of the season, and the only score Spurs needed to return to North London with maximum points.
