Yala road bomb injures volunteers

Two defence volunteers were seriously injured by a roadside bomb explosion in Yala’s Muang district on Wednesday morning.

Pol Capt Rusdee Kado, duty officer at Muang Yala police station, said he received a report of a bomb attack on a local road at Ban Bor Jed Look in tambon Yupo of Muang district about 7.15am.

He led a team of police and an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit to the scene.

Police were told that eight defence volunteers from Muang Yala district were traveling along the rural road on four motorcycles to escort teachers to school, when an improvised explosive device buried near the roadside was detonated. 

Two defence volunteers, Suthep Chanwanno, 30, and Pinyo Kongthon, 39, were seriously wounded in the explosion and taken to Yala hospital.

Police blamed members of a separatist group led by Rorki Dorloh which is active in Ban Thung Yamu and Ban Yupo areas of Yala province.
