Pattani hit by waves of violence
Fourteen locations in the southern border province of Pattani were hit by violence on Friday night, police said.

An unidentified group of insurgents was suspected of being behind incidents in Yaring, Nongjik, Yarang and Muang districts, said Pol Maj Gen Ekaphob Prasitwattanachai, chief of the provincial police force.

In Muang district, a closed-circuit television camera and a public telephone booth were set ablaze in front of Sat Wittaya School in tambon Tanyong Lulo.
The suspected insurgents also set fire to car tyres on Pattani-Narathiwat road and cut down trees to block different parts of the road.
An Advanced Info Service (AIS) mobile-phone tower near a high-voltage power line was damaged by fire.
In Yaring district, the suspected militants torched car tyres on a road and stole three CCTV cameras. In Nongjik, tyres were set alight near a Chulaporn Development project.
A house belonging to a village headman was also destroyed by fire, resulting in some injuries. Police were investigating whether the blaze was ignited by a short circuit or arsonists.
In Yarang, motorcycle tyres were burned in three spots on the Yala-Pattani road.
