Hot weather hits 35 provinces
A total of 35 provinces have been hit by drought, effecting people in 25,014 villages, Chatchai Promlert, director general of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said on Saturday.

Speaking on “Yingluck Government Meets the People on NBT, Mr Chatchai said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had ordered related state agencies to prepare for the drought before the situation occurs.
The government has prepared for the situation since October 2012, introducing “2P”-prevention and preparation-strategy under the “single command” management system, he said.
State agencies had refilled water in 49,000 public water tanks nationwide, with a combined water amount of 100 million litres, for household use when the drought occurs, he added.
Mr Chatchai said the government had already spent 889 million baht budget for easing the drought problem.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Preecha Rengsomboonsuk said his ministry has prepared water pumps in each province across the country. In the event that the dry spell continues until April these water pumps would be stationed to pump water to people’s houses and farmlands.
In addition, the ministry had drilled additional underground water wells to ensure there would be enough water for household and agricultural use during the dry season, he said.
