Militants rampage in Pattani overnight
Two soldiers were killed and six others injured by a bomb explosion on Wednesday night as militants also bombed two fishing boats, attacked defence volunteer posts and set fires at 35 spots in Pattani’s eight districts, police said.

The attacks occurred between 8pm and 10pm, police ssaid.
Tyres were burnt on local roads at nine spots - Ban Bin Yarang, Ban Pong Sata, Ban Bra-o, Ban Ton Makham, Ban Khao Toom, Ban Lahan Yamu, Ban Pula Kasing and Ban Lan Kwai of Yarang district.
In Muang district, the fishing boat Choke Surasakmontri berthed at a pier in Ban Thamuang was bombed and damaged. At a pier in tambon Arnohru, the fishing boat Pornsawan 22 was sunk by a bomb explosion.
Four spots were attacked in Khok Pho district. Two telephone poles were set on fire at Ban Lua and Ban Klong Chang Oke and tyres were burnt on roads at Bang Klong Pom and Ban Huay Prea.
In Kapo district, armed men attacked defence volunteers at Moo 1, tambon Karubi. There were no injuries reported.
Two defence volunteer booths under construction at Ban Kolor Kapa and Ban Kolor Kalee were burnt down, a minimart in Ban Muelor was set on fire and an AIS mobile phone signal pole was burnt at Ban Mor Saeng.
In Panare district, gunmen opened fire with handguns on defence volunteers guarding a halal food centre in tambon Nambor, no one was hurt. A telephone booth in Ban Na Phrao and two others in Ban Panare were bombed and damaged.
In Saiburi district, steel gate at the entrance to a house in Moo 2, tambon La Han, was damaged by a bottle bomb, a Dtac mobile phone signal pole in Ban Kayo Matee was burnt, a fishing boat in tambon Taluban was bombed and damaged, a Dtac mobile signal pole in Ban Cho Batu was burnt, an arts and crafts centre in Ban Pata Timor was set on fire and damaged, an outpost of paramilitary ranger unit No 4216 fired on and iron-nails were scattered on a local road at Ban Pa Thoong, tambon Bang Kao.
In Mai Kaen district, an agricultural cooperatives office building in Ban Plug Taen was set ablaze, two closed-circuit TV cameras in Ban Khok Nibong and Ban Don Sai were burnt and a telephone pole in Ban Pa Mai was set on fire.
In Mayo district, two cars of the provincial electricity authority (PEA) parked in front of the PEA’s Ban Palas office were set on fire.
Two soldiers were killed and six others injured by a bomb explosion on a local road at Ban Thasue in tambon Nam Bor of Panare district about 9.10pm on Wednesday.
They were identified as Lt Roengrit Phosa and Sgt Sanchai Sophawang.
The six wounded soldiers were taken to Panare hospital.
Army chieg Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Thursday he had briefed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the attacks in Pattani.
