Mr Singchai said he wants the government to maintain the price at this level forever, but it has to review the pledging process to prevent corruption.
Cutting the rice pledging price should be the last option, because the government has also subsidised fuel prices, he added.
The senator suggested that the government should rapidly release rice in its stockpiles, exchanging it for overseas products through government to government deals.
Mr Singchai said the 40 senators group also backed the government’s 350 billion baht water and flood management projects, but opposed any corruption in the scheme.
He called on all interested groups to criticice and give suggestions on the water projects in constructive ways, and to refrain from using legal technicalities to derail them.
The group consists of appointed and some elected senators, and is normally critical of the government.
