Pol Lt-Gen Vorapong Chiewpreecha, chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, will be in charge of police on saturday when supporters of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra rally to mark the third anniversary of the military coup, acting national police chief Pol Gen Thanee Somboonsap said on Monday.

He was speaking after he attended a meeting to discuss security measures with senior police officers about the planned protest.

All of the officers at the operational level just have to follow orders of the chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, he said. They wouldl not be held responsible if things went wrong.

Pol Gen Thanee said he himself would personally supervise the operation. He believed the situation would  not get out of hand.

Police would  use the Korakot 52 Operation Plan to control the mob, he added.

Pol Gen Thanee said he had no idea how many people would join the demonstration. It was too early to make an estimate.
